Cathy’s focus and passion are on helping organizations and individuals discover and cultivate untapped potential, enabling them to realize the power of effective teamwork and engagement to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges and seize game-changing opportunities.

Throughout her 25-year career in Organizational Change and Communications Consulting, she has worked as an advisor and strategic partner to leaders of Fortune 500 companies, federal agencies, national labor unions and non-profit groups. Through a long-standing affiliation with Overland Resource Group, she coaches, trains and consults to management and union leaders, helping them design and implement successful and sustainable collaborative processes that have prevented plant closures, saved failing businesses, launched technological transformations, and markedly improved employee engagement levels and quality of work life. Clients have included American Airlines, the Federal Aviation Administration, Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company; National Air Traffic Controllers Association, the National Weather Service, Payless ShoeSource, Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, United Auto Workers, United Steelworkers, among others. 

As founder and president of New Ground Consulting Group, Cathy works as a strategic thought partner and coach to a wide array of clients: from C-suite executives to factory floor supervisors; from federal government executives to union officers; from national non-profit leaders to entrepreneurs. In each case, she helps them address the challenges of: developing leaders who can effectively execute change strategies; assuring enterprise-wide understanding of the business and where it’s heading; building a culture of commitment that has everyone pulling in the same direction.

Cathy is an adjunct faculty member at American University in Washington, DC, where she teaches “Leader as Team Builder and Facilitator” and “Leading Change for Results” in the Key Executive Leadership program. She is also a trainer with Marcus Evans, Inc., where she developed and delivers courses on Corporate Reputation Management and Organizational Change Leadership. Cathy is a frequent contributor to blogs at Plant Services magazine,, and has been published in Government Executive and the American Society of Training and Development’s Public Manager magazine. She is a frequent speaker at national conferences, addressing topics that include collaboration, communication, leadership and organizational effectiveness.

A Certified Professional Coach, she also holds certifications in Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Extended DISC, Leader Skills™, Team Tools Interactive™; Seeing Systems: Organization Workshop; Future Search Facilitator; among others. She earned a BA in English from Appalachian State University and an MBA from Averett University, where she subsequently served as an adjunct faculty member. Prior to her consulting career, Cathy worked in Organizational Communication for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, Public Affairs at Miller Brewing Company, and as a journalist with daily newspapers in her native North Carolina.
