Ray Dick is a Senior Consultant for The Mayer Group, Inc.

Ray has more than 17 years experience applying his open-minded, out-of-box problem solving approach and his diverse experience, knowledge, and passion for learning to solving difficult operations/engineering performance issues and facilitating continuous, sustainable performance improvements in engineering functions, operations and engineering management, and business process improvement. His experience includes systems engineering and technology insertion, product management, engineering and operational management, and small business entrepreneurship. He has championed organizational excellence in his leadership roles in both small and large organizations leveraging lean and six-sigma methodologies across engineering, operations and programmatic areas of responsibilities.

As an engineering and operations manager and executive, Ray has designed and implemented top-down operational performance metrics derived from current industry best-practices to specifically address organizational performance goals. He has also successfully attacked manufacturing failure rates, process waste reduction, order fulfillment rates, and manufacturing effectiveness while reducing labor costs and meeting ongoing demand.

Ray also has experience as an independent professional services contractor and automated systems builder. He has leveraged his technical expertise to solve customer-specific manufacturing challenges through the application of advanced technologies. He has successfully managed and executed the complete customer-driven project lifecycle – from solution identification, development and negotiations through engineering, manufacturing, installations and post-sales support of high-technology manufacturing systems for a diverse customer base of manufacturers. Ray has provided custom solutions ranging from automated component weight testing quality control cells to multi-axis motion control systems and automated solid-state laser marking systems for product branding and identification. Ray has also developed North American business strategies for an international firm focusing on domestic product content sourcing and service contracting. Ray’s background as an independent contractor has deeply instilled the value of leveraging managed investments through strategic outsourcing and creative partnering.

Ray provides manufacturers and service providers structured and disciplined support to help them align their operational performance goals and measures with their strategic objectives. He helps organizations achieve greater strategic clarity and implementation through their business processes by blending traditional quality tools such as Lean, Total Quality Management (TQM) and Six-Sigma with the Baldrige Quality philosophies within a Balanced Scorecard perspective. He utilizes value-stream mapping tools within the context of strategy maps to identify horizontally and vertically aligned Key Performance Indicators (KPI). These KPI then provide the transparent framework from which to develop appropriate employee engagement and personnel development initiatives – all tied together around measurable, data-driven performance improvements that create measurable and sustainable business value.

Ray has a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and a Doctor of Engineering degree from the University of Kansas where he was the recipient of a NASA graduate fellowship. In addition to his consulting work Ray lectures in the University of Kansas’ Engineering Management graduate program.
